How TV prices behave around Black Friday
TVs are the product many retailers lead with at Black Friday, and that attention often carries over to the marketplace: sellers of new-in-box sets commonly reprice in the run-up. Two things separate a real drop from noise: how far below its usual price the listing goes, and whether it stays there.
Screen size and model year drive most of the price difference between listings, so the same model name can hide several distinct products. Always confirm the exact size and model number on the listing you are tracking.
What to start tracking now
Track the listings you would really buy, and give each one a few weeks of history before Black Friday arrives.
- The exact model and size you want, using the full model number from the listing.
- The previous year’s version of the same TV line. It is often close to identical for less, as long as the differences (panel type, HDMI features, gaming features) do not matter to you.
- A soundbar or home theater upgrade you would add at the same time.
Shipping and condition matter more for TVs
A TV is large, fragile and expensive to send back. On eBay, check whether shipping is included, where the item ships from, whether local pickup is offered, and what the return policy says about damage in transit. A lower listed price with costly shipping or a restrictive return policy is not actually cheaper.
For open-box or used sets, ask for photos with the screen switched on, so you can see the panel and not just the frame.
Setting your target price
Watch the listing for a few weeks, note the lowest and highest price Snagly has recorded for it, and set your target just under the lowest.
Snagly tracks the listing price. Add shipping yourself when you decide what your target should be, so that the number you set is the total you are actually willing to pay.
